Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond County star Tyrone Crowder enjoyed the football part, but it was the time off the field that had the biggest impact on him.
Last week at the Shrine Bowl in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the best players from the Carolinas came together. Although each one enjoyed competing, it was off the field that had the biggest impact on many.
"It was a great experience for me," said Tyrone Crowder. "It really gave be a better aspect of what life is all about when we went to visit the (Shriners) Hospital on Sunday."
"I feel like people take for granted and don't take advantage of what they have."
As far as football, Crowder enjoyed that part as well.
"I really enjoyed having fun with all the guys and getting to see new players," he said.
Even though it was an all-star game, Crowder said it was still very competitive.
"I really learned that you just have to compete being around all these great players," said the 6-foot-3, 330-pound Crowder. "Everybody here was out there giving their best and showcasing their games, so you just have to compete."
Crowder is entering the home stretch of his recruitment. He is down to two schools – Clemson and Georgia.
"Clemson – the (official) visit is January 11," Crowder said. "I haven't set anything up with Georgia yet, but I'm going to set it up pretty soon. I'll probably take my visit to Georgia after I take the visit to Clemson."
The visits will play an important role in his decision.
"A lot is really going to depend on how the official visits go," he said.
The All-American knows when he will likely make his choice.
"Signing Day is when I will probably make my decision," Crowder said.
Richmond County finished 11-2 this season. Crowder registered 130 pancake blocks.
Great experience for Crowder
