The University of Miami Men's Basketball team defeated Hawaii in the first game of the Diamond Head Classic today by the score of 73-58.
The Hurricanes hit the road this Christmas season to compete in the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii. They got off to a good start in the tournament by knocking off the host team.
The Hurricanes took just a one-point lead into halftime before exploding in the second half. They scored 51 second half points in the game -- the most in any half this season -- to put away the Rainbows.
Durand Scott led the Hurricanes with 20 points. Julian Gamble, playing for an injured Reggie Johnson, turned in his best performance of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Brandon Jawato was the only Hawaii player to score in double digits, adding 12 points in a losing effort.
Scott, Gamble, Shane Larkin, Kenny Kadji, and Rion Brown were the starters for the Hurricanes.
Miami will take on nationally-ranked Arizona in their next game of the tournament, to be televised by ESPN2.
