UM Recruiting Scoop: 1/15

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* Things don't seem to be trending in the right direction for 3-star RB Peyton Barber. He has upcoming visits to both Tennessee and Ole Miss and just added a visit to Texas for this weekend. Barber may still visit UM, but it's looking like a major longshot for the Canes. He's an Ole Miss commit from Georgia, who the Hurricanes offered in November.

* Speaking of RB prospects, the top one for the Canes remains 5-star Alex Collins. My sources are telling me that Miami's main competition is definitely Arkansas. For those wondering why, Arkansas is where the coaching staff at Wisconsin went. He developed a great relationship with them at Wisconsin, and it's continued at Arkansas. Throw in a coach with UM connections (Randy Shannon), and you can see why he has so much interest. A lot of answers should come from this weekend's visit here.

* A lot of people have been asking about 4-star DL Dee Liner. He was an early commitment to Auburn, but Miami never stopped recruiting him. He may take an official visit here this weekend but it's a major longshot for Miami to land him in the end. Alabama is Auburn's primary competition right now.

* 3-star OL commit Alex Gall says Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops talked to him this week, and tried getting him to take a visit. Gall declined the visit offer, and says he remains solid with his commitment to the Hurricanes. Gall, 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, plays at one of Ohio's top prep programs, and is scheduled to visit here this weekend.

* 4-star DT Keith Bryant committed to the Canes one year ago today. He remains a definite option for the Canes, who will host him for a visit later this month. He's developed a good relationship with the Tennessee coaches, and that's where he'll visit this weekend. Florida State remains Miami's top competition, especially after a strong visit there last weekend.
