At the Under Armour Junior Combine, Gibbons performed well in one-on-ones, taking coaching and quickly implementing it into his technique.
With great size, feet, athleticism and toughness, Gibbons is fielding interest from some of the elite programs in college football and has already been out to several for unofficial visits.
"Over the summer I went over to USC and I saw Stanford," Gibbons told GoBlueWolverine. "I've been to Notre Dame a few times. I've been to all of the Florida schools -- Miami, UCF, UF, USF. I've been up to Duke twice now and I was at South Carolina. I've been to a lot of places."
Michigan, down in Florida practicing for and playing in the 2013 Outback Bowl, is another school Gibbons has struck a relationship with early and with his cousin, kicker Brendan Gibbons, on the Wolverines, he made the short drive to a few bowl practices for an up close and personal view.
"We went down and we got to see him and I got to hang out with the offensive line and their coaches," said Gibbons. "I got to see a lot of stuff and it was really cool. Stuff you'd have to go up to Michigan to see—and so to be in my backyard, why not take advantage of that?"
Utilizing the relationship with cousin Brendan to his advantage, Gibbons hears plenty about the Michigan program and was even able to spend time with a former Wolverine now pursuing an NFL career, center Dave Molk.
"He tells me all the best stuff," said Gibbons. "All kinds of great stories. Last summer or the summer before, he had a couple of his friends down. He had Dave Molk, the center, down -- we went down to an island, Captiva, and it was a lot of fun. He tells me all the great, best things about Michigan. He's a great resource I think."
Similar to Molk's pregame head-butting ways in the locker room, Gibbons first time meeting the Illinois native was a little different. Entertaining -- but different.
"He was all Michigan," said Gibbons. "We had a friend down and he had an Ohio State shirt on and as soon as he got there -- he didn't even know the kid -- he ripped the shirt off of him. It was great."
Gibbons, already very familiar with the visit process, plans to get out on a few more trips this spring, noting he'd like to "go back a second or third time" to see everything.
A visit to Ann Arbor will undoubtedly be on that list according to Gibbons, with Michigan already carving out a nice position in this recruitment.
"To have a family member there, and I think he'd be there for my freshman year," said Gibbons. "To have a family member there would be really cool."
