School: Miami Northwestern
Recruiting: Burns landed an offer from the Canes during his junior year, at a time when he was still committed to Alabama. He switched his pledge to Miami in January. He still took other visits to LSU and Florida State but never really wavered much from his commitment to the Canes.
Scouting Report: Burns is an elite athlete with national track speed. He is over six feet tall, he has long arms, and he has very quick feet. He has a lot of things going for him athletically, but he still needs to improve his technique at cornerback. He needs to work on being more consistent and becoming more a shut-down guy. He has the skills and the raw ability along with the size to be a top guy. - Chad Simmons
2012 season: Burns finished his senior season with 45 tackles and four interceptions for a team that went to the state playoffs.
Mike's Take: Burns is a big get for the Hurricanes. A one-time Alabama commitment, the Canes flipping his commitment last summer was huge. He's an elite level athlete with ideal size. His speed and overall athleticism will allow him to start out playing cornerback. However, he probably has more long term potential at safety. Either way, he's a very good athlete and a good player with a very bright future here.
