Edwards Explains Miami Decision

Tottenville High (Staten Island, N.Y.) running back Augustus Edwards talks about choosing Miami over Florida State on signing day.

Augustus Edwards had no idea what he was in for in visiting Miami, but he sure liked what the Hurricanes offered.

So much the Tottenville High (Staten Island, N.Y.) running back returned to the frigid cold from his weekend visit and knew it was the place for him, and Wednesday he announced for and signed with the Hurricanes.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Edwards was also considering Florida State, where he visited a few weeks ago.

"I'm very happy and excited to be a part of the Miami family," Edwards said. "In the beginning of (last week), before I took my visit to Miami, it was very hard. But when I got there, I got a feeling I didn't get when I was at Florida State."

Miami laid the ground work when coach Al Golden and several assistants had an in-home and talked about how Edwards would fit into an offense in need of running backs.

That vibe and building on the plan continued during Edwards' visit to campus.

"I walked in and the coaches had a plan for me," Edwards said. "They not only wanted me, but they gave me the feeling they needed me by showing me how they were going to use me when I come in."

Edwards added the way he bonded with the staff and players at Miami made a big different as well.

"I got over there and I built a good relationship with the players over there," Edwards said. "I like the diversity of the coaching staff, and the players. There's more players from the northeast than I expected. It is also the opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact at running back.

"I wanted to come in and be able to play right away, so that was one of my main focuses in making this decision."
