Scout 100: UM Breakdown

Scout released its pre-spring Top 100 list on Thursday, and Mike Bakas takes a closer look at it from a Miami perspective.

Lets take a look at the list in three separate areas: commitments, players who have strong interest in Miami, and players who have a little interest in Miami.

The Hurricanes currently have five commitments in the Class of 2014. The only one who appears on Scout's Top 100 list is five-star running back Joseph Yearby (No. 23). At 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Yearby is on pace to make a run at some Dade County rushing records as a senior at Miami Central. The former FSU commitment is now pledged to the Canes.

No. 10, RB Sony Michel -- Miami is recruiting him very hard. He's been here a few times lately. Georgia seems like the top competition right now.

No. 16, OL K.C. McDermott -- The state's top OL prospect is starting center Shane's younger brother. Miami's in good shape.

No. 18, DT Khairi Clark -- The state's top DL prospect, Clark grew up a Miami fan and the Canes are in good shape.

No. 38, LB Tre Williams -- This Alabama star says Miami's his dream school but getting him to leave the state will be awfully tough.

No. 53, WR Ermon Lane -- The state's most talented WR prospect, Lane has a very good relationship with UM coach Mike Barrow. Alabama seems like the top competition.

No. 58, QB Quenton Flowers -- He plays QB at Jackson but at 6-feet he projects more as a WR in a pro style offense like Miami's. The Canes are watching but haven't offered yet. He will likely come if he gets one.

No. 68, RB Dalvin Cook -- A teammate of Yearby's at Miami Central, Cook is committed to Clemson. Miami is still recruiting him very hard, and has a chance.

No. 70, DT Thomas Holley -- The top defensive prospect in New York, Holley has indicated some early interest in Miami.

No. 84, QB Treon Harris -- The younger brother of Brandon, Treon plays QB at Booker T. Washington but projects as a WR or DB for teams who run a pro style offense. Miami is watching him closely.

No. 90, DE Chad Thomas -- He's widely considered the state's top D-End prospect, and has a lot of early interest in both FSU and Miami.

No. 27, CB Jalon Tabor -- Elite CB prospect from New Jersey, who the Canes already have a good relationship with.

No. 34, RB Joe Mixon -- The top RB out West, Mixon will likely stay out West.

No. 48, WR Chi Dupre -- Getting the top WR from Louisiana to leave the state won't be easy but there's some early interest.

No. 54, QB Caleb Henderson -- UM is on the verge of offering and he plans to visit soon.

No. 72, QB Drew Barker -- One of Miami's early QB offers, this Kentucky prospect has some -- not a lot -- interest

No. 86, OL Quenton Nelson -- One of the top linemen in New Jersey, the Canes have built a good relationship.

No. 96, QB Deshaun Watson -- A Clemson commit who the Canes offered recently. He's from Georgia.
