Miami NFTC: Recruiting Notes

The south part of Florida is loaded with top football prospects in the coming years and many were at the Miami Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday. Get the latest on their recruitment here.

  • Five-star defensive tackle Khairi Clark has offers from schools all over the country. The offers started coming in back in 2011 for Clark and he has had one school on top since then. "Miami is still on top," Clark told Scout Sunday. "I grew up loving them, I like how their coaches care about the players, and they really keep it real with me." Clark named Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, and Notre Dame as other schools he has interest in.

  • St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Corey Holmes is not thinking about top schools right now. He recently picked up offers from Oklahoma and West Virginia and he now has 22. "I do not have any top schools at this time. I am just taking my time and I will be making my decision after the season," Holmes said.

  • Former Florida State commitment Jacob McCrary has taken a step back and he is taking things very slow now. He told Scout on Sunday that he is up to 27 scholarship offers now and he said Michigan, North Carolina State, Ohio State, and some others have offered recently. "I just want to find the best place for me now," McCrary said. "I still like FSU, I am still looking at them, but I do not see myself committing to anyone again until January."

  • Trevor Darling was arguably the most impressive offensive lineman at the camp Sunday and he is a "solid" commitment to Miami. The 6-foot-6, 328 pound tackle out of Miami Central still has schools pursuing him, but UM is his school. "Miami is where I want to go. I committed to them early on because it was the school for me. Arkansas, Florida State, and some others are still after me, but I am 100-percent committed to Miami," said Darling.

  • One of the top 2015 prospects in Florida is Kendrell McFadden and he is already a hot name in South Florida. "I really don't know how many offers I have right now," he said. "FSU, Miami, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and so many have offered. Alabama is coming at me now too and I think they may offer me soon." McFadden's brother played at FSU and the 'Noles are his leader. Kendrell was wearing an FSU sweatshirt before the camp got started.

  • Miami Northwestern has one of the top defensive prospects in the state of Florida. 2014 rush end Michael Smith has offers from Cincinnati, Clemson, Louisville, South Florida, and West Virginia. He feels more could be on the way. "I have been talking to Miami and Florida, so I think they may offer me," he said. Clemson, Louisville, and Miami are his top three.

  • Scout 100 defensive end Chad Thomas earned an invite to The Opening on Sunday after being named the top defensive lineman at this camp. The 6-foot-5, 233 pound end out of Booker T. Washington has all even right now. "I do not have a list right now. All the schools are the same for me," Thomas said. "I will start making a list towards the end of my senior season and then take my official visits before I make my decision."

  • Stanley Clerveaux is a four-star receiver on Scout and he claims seven offers at this time with number eight likely coming soon. "Cincinnati is a big offer for me right now and I am supposed to talk to West Virginia soon, so they should be offering too," he said. "I really like Cincinnati and West Virginia because of the offenses they run. I would like to get offers from Florida and Georgia too."
