"I don't know a whole lot about the program but they offer a lot of the things I'm looking for in a program. Academics are big for me and I know it's a top academic school in the a highly competitive conference. I haven't made many visits this spring but I'm going to likely try to make it to Wake Forest this summer. It's still early on in the process. I'm looking forward to getting to know the staff better and building a relationship with them." Wake Forest has had recent recruiting success in the talent-rich Tampa Bay area with Michael Stevenson ('13) and Sheldon Lewinson ('12). Wynn would be quite a catch. He holds other offers from Florida State, UNC, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Missouri, Vanderbilt, USF, UCF, and West Virginia with more sure to join.
"I'm just taking things day by day," he said of his recruiting. "I don't have any favorites yet. I'll probably take most of my visits over the summer. If I really like a college then I may commit early, but my plan is not to make a decision until Signing Day unless I'm able to graduate early.
"I'd like to commit to a program with a great coaching staff, a place that feels like home away from home, and that I'm comfortable spending the next four to five years of my life. I want to study sports medicine so I'm going to look at schools that have a good program for that too."
Wynn had a good year at Lakewood at left tackle. He didn't allow a sack and was named all-Pinellas County, and all-State (Florida 5A).
"I've improved a lot technique-wise," he said. "Of course, there's always room to get better. I think I've increased my knowledge of the game. I know all about the plays and what we're trying to do offensively. I'm also more approachable and looking for ways to keep getting better as a player."
One thing the Wake Forest staff was surely impressed by was Wynn's 3.3 GPA. In January, Wynn competed against the nation's best at the U.S. Army Combine and was recognized for his performance with an all-Combine selection. Cory Moore, a Lakewood alumnus and former Minnesota Vikings running back, serves as Wynn's head coach for the Spartans.
