UM Recruiting Scoop: 3/26

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* Trevor Darling was the first player mentioned by Scout's Chad Simmons when recapping the players who stood out most to him on his recent trip to scout players in the state of Florida. Here is what Simmons had to say about the Miami Central standout who has been committed to Miami for several months:

"Darling was the most impressive offensive tackle at either camp in Florida. He plays light on his feet at 6-6/328, he uses those long arms to his advantage, and he is making a push for a top 100 prospect in the country. To see how it has all come together for Darling is impressive."

Darling told Scout earlier this week that he remains strongly committed to the Hurricanes, despite strong pushes from schools like Florida State and Arkansas.

* Miami was the first school to offer Tampa Plant LB Andrew Beck earlier this year. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Beck is now being recruited nationally. He took visits to Texas (who offered him on the visit) and a few other schools in that state this past weekend. He plans to see schools like Florida State and Stanford next. It seems like he plans on making an early decision, so he's making sure to get a lot of his visits out of the way early on. The Canes have a lot of competition here. He's clearly got nothing against going away from his home state for college. The Canes seem to have their hands full with this one.

* Four-star WR Malachi Dupre (John Curtis Christian) attended a recent LSU practice recently. The Hurricanes offered him recently but getting him away from his home state was going to be tough. His continued interest in LSU, in the form of visiting practice this time, is more reason to believe the Canes have their hands really full with this one. He has to be considered a longshot right now for Miami.

* Corey Martinez is one of the top OL prospects in the state of Florida this year. At 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, the Tampa Catholic standout was offered by Miami earlier this year. He attended a game at Sun Life last season and told Scout today that he hasn't taken any unofficial visits yet this year. His first two will go to Florida State and Georgia on his spring break that is coming up. Florida also is seriously in the mix. It seems like Miami could be running in third place among Florida schools right now. Still, they're in it and he's someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
