Canes offer local pass rusher

This local prospect just landed an offer from the Hurricanes. Read on to learn more about him.

Michael Smith put his name on the recruiting map as a junior last season at Miami Northwestern High. He finished the season with 17 sacks, and emerged as one of the premier pass rushers in Dade County.

At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Smith has the speed and athletic ability to play outside linebacker in college. He's athletic enough to play in space. He also has enough size and pass rushing ability to one day become a full-time defensive end. Either way, he's a major threat off the edge.

Smith told Scout's Amy Campbell that Miami offered him last night. He told me last month that the Canes were his favorite school growing up. That means Miami's chances of getting him are very good.

Smith also has offers from schools like West Virginia, USF, Clemson, and Tennessee.
