UM Recruiting Scoop: 4/10

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* The quarterback position continues to be a position where Miami's coaches are trying to find another player. Alin Edouard is already committed but the coaches seem committed to finding a second guy there. One of the kids they've offered is Brad Kaaya. The California native visited Miami recently during his spring break, so there's obviously strong interest on his part having taken the cross-country trip to see the school and meet with the coaches. Miami was also his first scholarship offer. Schools like Stanford and UCLA are still evaluating him, while waiting on other top quarterback prospects who they've already offered to make their decisions. If those schools end up offering, things will get a lot tougher for Miami. Right now, however, the Canes seem to be in really good shape after the visit.

* The RB position is another one where Miami has one currently committed (Joseph Yearby) while several others are still being recruited. One of those players is North Carolina's Derrell Scott, who told Scout last week that the Canes gave him an offer. Last night he gave Scout his top five choices and Miami wasn't one of them. The Canes have a long way to go here. They were a little late in offering compared to the other schools at the top of his list. That could be a reason. Don't expect things to change until Scott takes a visit here, if that ever even happens.

* Defensive line is a major position of need for the Hurricanes and they've been sending out numerous offers lately. One of the most recent ones was to Georgia's Caleb Samuel. At 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, he's from the state of Georgia. Some of his previous offers included North Carolina, Louisville, and Ole Miss. He's still being evaluated by schools like Georgia and Florida State. Samuel also plays tight end on offense but projects as a defensive tackle at the college level. How serious he is about Miami won't really be known until he takes a visit here at some point. Junior Video: CLICK HERE

* Another defensive lineman who claims the Hurricanes just offered is Braxton Hoyett from the state of Alabama. At 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, he's a little on the small side for a defensive tackle but has plus athleticism. The interesting part here is that he's another defensive lineman -- the third in as many weeks -- to claim the Hurricanes were his first scholarship offer. Either they're reaching, or simply beating their competition to the punch. Time will tell. Boyett seems to have a lot of interest, especially with Miami being his first offer.
