Michel visiting Notre Dame before decision
Running back Sony Michel of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage will visit Notre Dame this weekend for the Irish's spring game before he announces his final decision later this month. His head coach, Mike Rumph, is one of the reasons why Michel wants to make the trip. "Sony just left my office after school today, and he's excited about going back up there," Rumph said. "I was up at Notre Dame this weekend for the coaches clinic, and it impressed me a lot. [Running backs coach] (Tony) Alford and I actually called Sony together while I was there, and we let him know he needed to get back up there and check it out." Michel is still set to announce his decision on April 26, according to Rumph. He will choose between Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Notre Dame. "I told Sony that needs to weigh all of his options before he decides," Rumph said. "He's been up to Notre Dame before and he was impressed, but I think it's good for him to see it again. I told him he's not going to find better facilities than the ones at Notre Dame, and I just told him how great of a school it was." Rumph, who was named head coach at American Heritage last December, was a standout safety for the University of Miami in the late 1990s before being a first round draft pick in the NFL. "Sony is very private, and he hasn't told me what he is thinking as far as a school," Rumph said. "He still plans on deciding soon. I think he should wait until signing day, but he's ready to get on with this process. Sony was originally supposed to have a track meet this weekend, but he's not doing track right now, so it's a good time for him to go to Notre Dame." Michel previously told Scout.com that he knew his choice, and "how comfortable he feels on campus" is the biggest factor. "His parents realize how mature he is and they're not pressuring him at all," Rumph said. "This is 100 percent his decision."
