Canes add punter transfer

Replacing Dalton Botts just became a bit easier for the Hurricanes with the arrival of a new transfer.

The Hurricanes have seemingly found a replacement for Dalton Botts. Pat O'Donnell is now a Miami Hurricane, according to the school.

At 6-foot-5 and 222 pounds, O'Donnell spent the last four seasons at Maryland. He is expected to graduate this spring and will play his senior season at Miami in 2013.

A Palm Beach Central product, O'Donnell redshirted in 2009 before punting three seasons for the Terps. He averaged 41.9 yards on 52 punts in 2010, 43.8 on 63 punts in 2011, and 41.8 on 59 punts in 2012. His longest punt went 76 yards.

In addition to his punting duties over the last three seasons, O'Donnell was used as Maryland's kickoff specialist the last two seasons. During those two seasons, he averaged 63.8 yards on 136 kickoffs, and had 43 touchbacks.

O'Donnell is already listed as the team's starting punter heading into the summer. He's also expected to challenge Matt Goudis for the team's kickoff duties.
