LB whose dream school is UM gets offered

This four-star linebacker prospect says he grew up a Miami fan. The Canes offered him on Thursday. Read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

D.J. Calhoun told Scout today that Miami has offered.

6-1/205 OLB from El Cerrito, CA

He plays a lot of safety in high school and has talked in the past about wanting to play strong safety at the college level. He finished his junior season with 110 tackles.

His sister plays basketball at USC but actually grew up a Miami fan.

"Growing up, I always loved Miami so they would be a cool school to get an offer from and if they offered, I'd definitely take a visit and check them out," Calhoun told Scout.

He called UCLA and Arizona State his top two choices back in January at a time when those two schools, along with Nebraska, Washington, and a few others had already offered. After taking Junior Day visits to UCLA, USC, and Cal (USC and Cal offered after each visit), he still called the Bruins his top choice. He then visited both schools last weekend and called them even.

The Miami offer is huge here because he grew up a big Hurricane fan. The best chance the Canes have in recruiting against schools like USC and UCLA for players in California is if they grew up wanting to come here.

A visit here is likely going to happen in the near future. That's when we'll learn a lot more about his interest but this offer will likely put UM right in the thick of things.
