Canes offer out-of-state QB

The Hurricanes offered another quarterback prospect just a few days ago. He already lists Miami in his top two. Read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

Jalan McClendon says he was offered by Miami on Friday.

6-5/195 from West Mecklenburg HS in Charlotte, NC

"He's a good leader, which is good for us because we have a young team, and it started going into his tenth grade year," West Mecklenburg head coach Jeff Caldwell told Scout's Don Callahan. "He started leading in the weight room and then he started leading everywhere else we went. It wasn't something we asked him to do – he just took it upon himself. It was a natural thing for him.

"He's a natural drop back quarterback, but the running comes easy to him also it's something that he wants to do. He keeps the ball alive – we're not asking him to make any 30-, 40-yard runs. But he runs to keep the chains moving and get the ball down the field."

He finished his junior season with 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns while leading his team to its best record in 25 years.

He took in summer camps at North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wake Forest last year. UNC and Wake offered. In December, he named Clemson his top choice followed by those two. In March, he named Florida State, UNC, and Clemson as his top three.

The offer from Miami seems to have changed things for the talented young quarterback.

"Right now Miami, NC State, [North] Carolina, FSU, and East Carolina would be my top five, in no order," he told Scout today. "NC State and Miami are my leaders. I feel like they offer the best opportunity for me to get some playing time and potentially play early."

The Hurricanes seem to be in very good shape here heading into the summer. Being in the top two for an out-of-state kid even before he visits is huge.
