UM Recruiting Scoop: 5/8

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas

* Perhaps the biggest recruiting news of the week for the Hurricanes came in the form of a new quarterback offer. Malik Rosier, a two-sport standout from Faith Academy High in Mobile, Alabama was offered by the Canes earlier this week. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Rosier had a very productive junior season running the spread offense. Despite the fact that his team went just 3-7 and Miami was his first BCS offer, he seems like a talented quarterback prospect. He told Scout today that Miami is the top school on his list right now, which isnt surprising considering they're the first major school to offer him. The true test will be whether he maintains that when other BCS schools start offering in the future. For now, however, he's someone Miami fans should remember.

* Despite having commitments from four offensive line prospects in the 2014 class, a group that makes up what could be the top class in the country right now at the position, the Canes are still looking for a fifth. They just handed out another offer earlier this week to Josh Allen. At 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, Allen is a two-way interior lineman from University Christian High in Jacksonville. Allen, who helped lead his team to the state title game last season, projects as a guard in college. He visited North Carolina recently and lists them as his top choice. With recent offers from schools like Florida State and now Miami, Allen is starting to get recruited like a 4-star player.

* Speaking of interior linemen, Jeremiah Clarke named his top six to Scout yesterday and Miami was one of the six. At 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, he's a 3-star caliber defensive tackle prospect from the state of Virginia. The interesting part here is that he plans to visit Miami in the next few weeks. He was offered by the Canes last month, and now wants to come down to check out the school. We'll learn a lot more about his interest in UM following that visit. It could push the Canes toward the top, or keep them at the bottom half of his top six heading into the summer.

* Another recent offer went out to Junior College defensive tackle Calvin Heurtelou. At 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, he plays Juco ball in Arizona. Unfortunately for Miami, the offer didn't seem to make a big impact. He told Scout today that Missouri is the top school on his list right now. He's originally from the state of New York, so going back East to play his college ball doesn't seem unlikely. Right now, however, Miami doesn't seem to be a serious candidate. The more interesting part here is that it's another offer to a Juco defensive tackle, just a few weeks after the Canes landed a commitment from Juco DT Dalvon Stuckey. The former FSU signee is from the Florida panhandle, and still has plans to take other visits. He can't be considered a rock solid commitment, and it seems like the Miami coaches are lining up some backup plans just in case -- or they may simply want two Juco DT's in a class following a 2013 group that also included one. Look for others to emerge here soon as well.
