Canes offer Chicago-area DL

This Chicago-area defensive end prospect was offered by Miami earlier this week and now has over a dozen offers. Read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

Chris Slayton told Scout last night that Miami has now offered him a scholarship.

6-5/250 DE from Crete-Monee (Ill)

He played his junior season in the 230-pound range, and says he's added about 20 pounds since then. He finished the 2012 season with 61 tackles, nine for loss, nine sacks, and three caused fumbles.

He is teammates with 4-star LB Nyles Morgan, who also has an offer from the Hurricanes and is being nationally recruited. Together, they helped their team win a state title last season.

The first thing that jumps out is his ability to run. He was actually the fastest defensive lineman at a combine held in Ohio earlier this year.

His first offer came from Toledo. He then added BCS offers from Michigan State and Illinois by the end of March. He made visits to both schools. Just in the last few weeks he's added schools like Wisconsin, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and now Miami.

Since he's never been to Miami before it's tough to tell how much interest he has in the program. The Canes just started recruiting him a few weeks ago.
