Canes offer Juco LB

The Hurricanes have been dipping into the Junior College ranks lately for defensive line prospects. Now they appear to be headed there looking for linebackers. This player was just recently offered so read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

Antonio Smothers says the Hurricanes offered him recently.

6-2/235 LB prospect from Scottsdale Community College

He played in eight games as a freshman last season and finished the season with 53 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and two caused fumbles. He was an All-Conference selection following the season.

He's originally from the Chicago area. He plays at the same Juco as UM DL target Calvin Heurtelou. Both players were also offered by Kansas State recently, so Smothers is being recruited like a 3-star player.

He's on track to graduate in December, and will have three years to play two. Until he visits here, which could happen in the fall, it'll be tough to tell what Miami's chances really are.

The offer indicates the Hurricanes will be willing to dip into the Junior College ranks for a linebacker in the 2014 class.
