Canes offer Rutgers commit

The Hurricanes have recruited the state of New Jersey very hard in recent years under Al Golden. That hasn't changed this year and their most recent offer there went to a player already committed to Rutgers. Read on to learn more about him.

Sidney Gopre says the Hurricanes offered him recently.

6-1/210 LB prospect from Weequahic HS in Newark, NJ

Playing both middle and outside linebacker as a junior last season, he finished the year with 132 tackles, 41 for loss, and five sacks. He also added 87 yards rushing and 69 yards receiving in limited action on the offensive side of the ball.

Temple was his first Division 1 offer and then Rutgers soon followed, and he committed to the Scarlet Knights back in early March.

Here is how he describes his game to Scout: "I am very aggressive and fast along with relentless when it comes to attacking to get to the ball. My high motor and smart play really makes me a player that understands the game."

Despite the early commitment to Rutgers, Gopre has continued getting actively recruited by a lot of other schools. Since making the commitment, he's landed offers from Syracuse, Michigan State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Duke, Penn State, and now Miami. He's being recruited like a high level 3-star prospect.

Miami's coaches are very active in New Jersey and they have a lot of connections there. The fact that so many schools have continued recruiting Gopre is likely an indication that they believe they still have a chance with him. Miami's chances won't really be known until he takes a visit here at some point.
