Monday marked a huge day for UK football recruiting as four-star Ohio defensive backs Mike Edwards and Darius West made their verbal commitments to Mark Stoops while visiting campus, but they weren't the only big developments of the day.
Kentucky may have also improved its position with one of the South's top defensive line prospects, Cory Thomas from McAdory High School in Alabama.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Thomas, who was in Lexington with fellow Alabama prospects Jarrett Brown and Braxton Hoyett, said he was impressed by what the Wildcats had to show him.
"It went good," he said via text message. "It was good to meet the whole staff and some of the commmits. I really liked how they treated me.
"I got to meet the D-Line coach (Jimmy Brumbaugh) and talked a lot with coach (Derrick) Ansley."
Ansley is recruiting Thomas for the Wildcats. He faces some tough competition in the form of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Clemson and Ole Miss. All have offered the nation's No. 48 defensive tackle.
Mississippi State has been Thomas' declared leader. But he noted that a recent offer from Miami and his visits to schools like UK and Tennessee have been eye-opening experiences.
