UM Recruiting Scoop: 6/14

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* While there has been a lot of chatter about the quarterbacks in the 2014 class for the Hurricanes, they've already offered an elite level kid from the 2015 class. His name is Ricky Town and he's from California. Town has already been on UM's campus before, and seems to have some early interest. He camped at Alabama last week and landed an offer. He was at Texas this past week and earned an offer. He goes to Georgia next. It seems like everywhere he goes he gets offered. Town told Scout today that he already has in his mind that he'll probably leave California for college, so that will make things interesting. It won't be easy for Miami, because of the competition here, but he's definitely the QB in the 2015 to keep the closest eye on right now.

* The Hurricanes are actively recruiting several linebackers in the 2014 class and one player who seems close on getting offered is Jacksonville's Darrion Owens. At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Owens plans to visit here next weekend for camp. He told Scout today that Miami's in his top five, along with Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, and Michigan. He will try earning an offer next weekend but did tell Scout last week that he wasn't "sure" about his interest in Miami. An offer and a successful visit could change things, so keep an eye on him.

* The Hurricanes are actively recruiting several Junior College defensive linemen this year and one is Davonte Lambert from Georgia. At 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds, Lambert says the Canes offered him back in the spring. Unfortunately for the Canes, he seems pretty set on Florida and Georgia. He told Scout today that he's been going back and forth between those two schools, and they're likely his two finalists. Miami seems out of the mix right now.

* 5-star DT prospect Thomas Holley is making an unofficial visit to Miami today. At 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, the New York standout is one of the top-rated defensive tackle prospects in the entire country. Miami offered him very early, and has been actively recruiting him for quite some time now. Like most out of state kids, we'll learn a lot more about his real interest in Miami following this visit. The Canes seemed to be in decent shape going in. Stay tuned.
