Canes offer Tampa safety

The Hurricanes had only offered one in-state safety prospect heading into the summer. They made it two late last week when they offered this three-star kid from the Tampa area. Read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

Kyle Gibson says the Hurricanes offered him last week.

6-foot, 170-pound S prospect from Armwood HS in Tampa

He finished his junior season with 53 tackles, 7 for loss, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. His team, a perennial power in Florida, went 9-4 and made it to the third round of the state playoffs.

He's had a strong offseason, which started by winning the Defensive Back MVP award at the Nike Training Camp in Orlando.

He named Notre Dame and Louisville as his top two schools in mid-March at a time when he had 11 offers (not including any of the Florida schools). In early April, he added UCF and Vanderbilt (where he visited for their spring game) to form his top four list.

Florida State offered him in early May, and he said they're the school he grew up following. However, even after Miami offered last week, Gibson still says that Louisville and Vanderbilt are his top two schools. He has the best relationships with the coaching staffs at those two schools. They seem to be recruiting him harder than Miami and FSU.
