Local ATH gets Miami offer today

This player camped at Miami recently, and grew up with a lot of interest in the Canes. Despite being currently committed to an SEC school, he says the Hurricanes offered him today. Read on to learn more about him as a prospect.

"Just got offered by the University of Miami," Deerfield Beach RB/DB Brandon Powell just said.

5-foot-10 and 170 pounds

He did a little bit of everything for them last season. On offense, he had 150 carries for 1,081 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also added 13 receptions with four touchdowns. On defense, he picked off two balls. Powell also returned kicks.

He wants to play offense in college, and sees himself as a Reggie Bush type player.

"I prefer the offensive side of the ball," he said. "It doesn't matter. Anywhere on the offensive side, that's where I want to be."

He had nearly 20 scholarship offers before April 1 including schools like Tennessee, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and South Florida. Florida State, where he camped last summer, offered him back in April. He also attended Miami's Junior Day event back at the beginning of the year.

Powell camped here in early June hoping for an offer but it didn't come at the time. He committed to Tennessee following their camp a week later, saying that while his commitment is firm he still intended to take other visits and talk to other coaching staffs.

The Hurricanes offered him today, which should make things very interesting. He grew up with a lot of interest in the Hurricanes and has been on campus before. He knows the school, the area, and the coaches. Keep a close eye on this one.
