Canes add another commitment

The University of Miami landed six commitments on the final weekend of their summer camp series. A day later, they added commitment number 17 for the Class of 2014.

Ryan Mayes put his name on the recruiting map as a junior at Dr. Krop High in Miami last season. He finished the season with eight catches for 214 yards (26.8 YPC) and four touchdowns. He also had two interceptions on defense.

Mayes, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, transferred to Miami Northwestern to play his senior season. After getting offered by Syracuse back in the spring, Miami started getting serious about him. He camped here and Monday night landed the offer he always wanted -- and he committed to the Hurricanes.

"Congrats to Ryan Mayes on committing to the University Of Miami," said NW assistant coach TY Conyers.

Mayes plays on both sides of the ball in high school but is being recruited by Miami to play on defense. That's fine with him.

"I honestly don't care about the position I play. I just want to help my team and play to my potential," Mayes said. "I prefer defense because I like to hit, I like to be physical."

Mayes becomes the 17th commitment for the Hurricanes in their 2014 class.
