Larkin drafted in 1st round by Atlanta

Miami's Shane Larkin turned in a tremendous season in 2012/2013, leading the Hurricanes to one of their best seasons in school history. Now he's headed to the Atlanta Hawks.

All-American Shane Larkin helped Miami to a tremendous season this past year and now he'll take his game to Atlanta after the Hawks used the 18th overall selection in the first round on him Thursday night.

"We are very excited for Shane and his family," said Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga."He is going to make his coach very happy. Shane is a great competitor. He loves to win and has all the physical and mental skills to succeed in the NBA."

Larkin, whose father Barry is one of the best shortstops in Major League Baseball history, became the 19th Hurricane drafted. He became Miami's first top-round pick since John Salmons back in 2002.

Just a sophomore this past season, Larkin led the team in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (164), steals (71), and 3-point percentage (40.6).

Initial reports say that Larkin is likely going to be traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
