4-star DL commit has been helping recruit

Travonte Valentine committed to Miami a few weeks ago, and it was a huge get for the Hurricanes. We caught up with him to talk about the latest on the recruiting front.

Miami was the first school to offer Travonte Valentine during his junior season at Bayside High in Palm Bay. After making commitments to Louisville and then Florida, Valentine opened things back up a few months ago and then transferred to Champagnat Catholic High in Miami.

Valentine, 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, committed to the Hurricanes a couple weeks ago and remains excited about that decision.

"I'm not changing from this one," Valentine said about his third pledge. "Miami is where I want to be. It's where my heart is. I have the best chance of going in and playing right away."

Valentine has spent some time with some UM coaches in recent weeks and he feels comfortable around them and the opportunity that presents itself.

"I talk to all the coaches really," he said. "It's not just one or two. I have a good relationship with all of them. I think I can go in and help them. They're about to start winning like they used to. They are recruiting a lot of 6-3 guys and I'm 6-5 so I think I'll have an advantage. I'm ready to compete though."

The talented defensive tackle prospect says he's now finished with the recruiting process, and has even helped the Canes recruit some lately.

"I'm done with visits and all that," he said. "This one is final. I'm going to Miami. We're putting together a great class. I kept telling Chad Thomas he needed to do it (commit to the Canes). It's gonna be big."
