Season Preview: Quarterbacks

After a very impressive sophomore campaign, Ken Dorsey is a major reason why the Hurricanes should be competing for a national championship again this season.

Coach: Dan Werner

The Starter: Ken Dorsey (6-5, 210, JR)

The Backups: Derrick Crudup (6-1, 202, R-FR), Troy Prasek (6-2, 193, JR), and Buck Ortega (6-5, 213, FR)

The Good Stuff: Entering his second season as the starting quarterback at the University of Miami, Dorsey is ready to make a run at the UM record books, the Heisman Trophy, and most importantly – the national championship.

As a sophomore last season, Dorsey threw for 2,737 yards and 25 touchdowns, compared to just five interceptions. He's 14-1 as the starting quarterback here, including three victories over Top 10 opponents. UM will rely heavily on Dorsey's experience and big game ability as they march toward a run at the national championship. If he gets on the same page as his young receivers early in the season, Dorsey might have an even better season this year.

Potential Worries: Dorsey went 14-1 with three wide receivers who are now playing in the NFL. It'll be very important for Dorsey to get on the same page as his young receivers early in the season. And while Dorsey did lead UM to victory over Florida in New Orleans, he's only started against one team on the road that had a winning record. This fall, he will probably play against five of them. Finally, UM must develop some depth behind Dorsey in case it's needed, especially in a big game. Getting backup Derrick Crudup some action early in the season will be very important.
