Update on late qualifiers

The Hurricanes were awaiting the arrival of up to five defensive linemen from the 2013 class. Here is the latest.

The Hurricanes signed three defensive linemen on National Signing Day who still haven't enrolled in school yet. They also added a Junior College defensive linemen over the summer, and are hoping to get a transfer from Wisconsin.

Head coach Al Golden confirmed that prep All-American Alquadin Muhammad is in and on the roster now. At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, he provides a big boost to a much needed pass rush.

Ufomba Kamalu (6-4/290) and Julio Derosier (6-5/270) are two Junior College transfers who are in town and should start practicing with the team in a few days.

"We expect Kamalu and Derosier on the roster in the next few days," Golden said. "They're not on there until they get cleared."

No update has been provided on a third Junior College transfer, defensive end Devante Bond. That likely means he will not qualify in time for the fall semester. He will likely head elsewhere.

The fifth player the Hurricanes are waiting on is Wisconsin transfer David Gilbert. We're being told that this is still a possibility, and that it's simply a matter of getting him cleared.

All the players mentioned in this story will likely see playing time in 2013, and will provide much needed depth to Miami's defensive line.
