Interview: Javon Nanton

With only 82 scholarships being used right now, the University of Miami will be sure to add at least two more recruits to its incoming freshmen class when those kids report on Aug 5. One of those new players will be Javon Nanton, although he will come on track scholarship his first year. The Miami Springs standout was an honorable mention All-Dade County pick as a senior last season.

MB: What is your current height and weight without shoes on?
JN: I'm about 6-4 with shoes, 6-3 without. I weigh 200 on the nose.

MB: What type of senior season did you have last season?
JN: I finished the season with 85 tackles and 22 tackles for loss. I was honorable mention All County at linebacker.

MB: Talk about the recruiting process last year.
JN: I was recruited by Miami, Iowa State, Missouri, Kentucky, and a few others. But Miami is where I always wanted to play. When they told me they would be able to take me, I was very happy.

MB: Which coach recruited you?
JN: Coach Kehoe

MB: Have you met any players on the team?
JN: I used to play with Willis McGahee, and we're still good friends. I also met some players, like Carl Walker.

MB: How does the scholarship situation work?
JN: I told them I wouldn't mind coming on a track scholarship my first year, so they agreed. I'll run track my first year and walkon the football team. I was going to redshirt anyway, so it will work out where my redshirt freshman year, I'll be on football scholarship.

MB: Where's Devin Aromashodu going to end up?
JN: I haven't talked to him about it a whole lot, but I know he likes UM a lot. I'm hoping he comes here.
