Gaines: The offense won the scrimmage

Read on to see what senior linebacker Jimmy Gaines is saying just a couple days after the team's first fall scrimmage.

On the new defensive linemen:
Those guys are here to help us. The more the merrier. It gives us more competition. We expect great things from them.

On Duke Johnson:
Duke is Duke. He's a great player. If he thinks he's hard to tackle this year, he''s always been hard to tackle.

On the scrimmage Sunday:
The offense won this time. The defense didn't play like we wanted to. We had some things not go our way. That stuff happens.

On if the issues were similar to last year's:
You cant really compare it to last year.

On the D-Line:
They're doing a great job. Guys are really getting after it. Guys on the edge, the new kid Muhammad, he's a great pass rusher. Tyriq McCord is too.

On young players like Muhammad and Burns:
You never know. We might just have to see. They stood out to me, watching from the sidelines. They did a great job from what I saw.

On having D-Line depth:
It feels great. We keep those big boys fresh. They can get after the quarterback. I'm excited to see what they can do.

On the LB group:
We can be as good as we wanna be. As long as we stay focused, we should be able to do really well. We have fun. That's big. When you have fun, you play better.
