UM Recruiting Scoop: 8/15

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* Wide receiver is a position of need for the Hurricanes in the 2014 class. They have two players already committed (Trayone Gray and Darrell Langham) and a third (Derrick Griffin) who was placed in Prep School and plans to enroll here in the spring. The Canes will still likely sign two more. Virginia's Jamil Kamara came out with his top five today, and Miami wasn't on it. That's likely because Miami stopped recruiting him as hard as some others closer to his home. Another player, Moral Stephens, has seen his stock dropping. Miami offered him early but now seems to be backing off, along with FSU. His father told Scout today that Kentucky and a few other mid-level programs are in the lead.

* One WR to keep a close eye on is JoJo Robinson. At 6-feet and 175 pounds, he's been committed to Florida State for awhile now. He confirmed with Scout this week that the commitment is soft and that Miami remains very much in the picture. He grew up a Canes fan, has an offer from Miami, attends Northwestern HS in Miami, and is being recruited to UM by friend/teammate Michael Smith. While he is committed to the Noles now, don't be surprised if the Canes are able to flip him down the stretch.

* The top tight end target appears to be New Jersey's Mike Gesicki. At 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, he visited here earlier this summer but also saw a handful of other programs. While it appeared as though Penn State was the top competition in the spring, it now appears as though it's Ohio State. "I don't have a favorite but I really like Ohio State," he told Scout today. Miami will be in good shape to get an official visit from him later this year but the Canes may have a tough time competing with some of the premier programs closer to home.

* The Hurricanes have 13 scholarship offensive linemen. One (Hunter Knighton) is already out for the season with shoulder surgery, even though he was expected to redshirt anyway. Another (Danny Isidora) is out for at least eight weeks after having foot surgery. Another (Hunter Wells) cant seem to crack into the rotation in his third year in the program. All of a sudden depth has become somewhat of an issue here with the recent injuries (Sunny Odogwu and Alex Gall have also missed time during fall camp with injuries). This leads me to believe the Canes could add another offensive linemen to its roster between now and the start of the season. Who? I don't have any leads but Al Golden saying he wasn't happy with the O-Line depth situation earlier this week confirms that the Canes are likely seeking another player here in the 2013 class. They've done a very good job of adding some defensive linemen late. Don't be surprised if an offensive lineman is added next.
