Dade County Standout down to UM and FSU

I watched Central's jamboree against American back in late May and Darnell Jenkins was playing quarterback due to an injury to their starter, so it was difficult for me to tell what type of wide receiver prospect he was. But one thing I pointed out that night was that this kid was as good an athlete as any player on the field that night.

Jenkins is 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds (he was 169 at NIKE) and ran a 4.46. He also turned in a 34-inch vertical jump.

As a cornerback prospect, I think Jenkins can play pretty much anywhere he wants. But as a wide receiver, this kid has big time written all over him. He's got outstanding speed and quickness and runs excellent routes. He's not quite as explosive as Roscoe Parrish, but he definitely has Roscoe-like ability because of the total package that he brings to the table.

Your current core GPA: 2.6

Your current test score: I don't have it yet (editor's note: Jenkins has passed both sections of the HSCT)

Describe your style of play: I am versatile and can go both ways. I really want to play wide receiver, though, that's my first choice.

Which schools have offered a scholarship: I have a bunch of written offers, but I am going to either Miami or Florida State. It's down to those two.

What is your timetable for a decision: I will probably decide right after I get back from the Florida State camp, so call me then. I want to definitely have a decision out of the way before the season starts.

Talk about Florida State: I grew up a fan and I would really like to play there. I am looking forward to going there and meeting with the coaches and looking around the campus to see how I like it. I've never been there, so it'll be my first visit. That's when I will know if it'll be Miami or Florida State.

Talk about Miami: They have a great atmosphere. It's close to home and I know a lot of players there. I have already met with Coach Shannon, CJ, and Larry Coker, and I really like them.

If signing day were tomorrow, who would it be: I really can't say until I see FSU at their camp. It's really a hard choice. It's 50/50 right now, but one school will take the lead after I camp there, and that's who I will sign with.

Jenkins is a big time wide receiver prospect. After watching that film today, combined with what I have seen of him in person, I have him as the No. 4 wide receiver prospect on this month's Super 50 list. With a strong senior season, he could move up the list of wide receivers that includes Aromashodu, Moore, and Holmes. I really think he'll make a decision right after the FSU camp. Unfortunately, their coaches will get to put the final squeeze on. But I still like our chances because when push comes to shove, he'll realize the opportunity that he has of playing at home in front of friends and family and playing with a lot of kids he grew up with. Stay tuned!
