Interview: Jovonny Ward

"I finished the school year with a 2.0 core and a 21 on the ACT," Ward said.

"But I didn't graduate yet because I haven't passed the communications part of the HSCT," he said. "I scored a 694 and I need a 700 on it."

So what's Ward been doing since the end of the school year?

"I've been studying and taking an class every day just for the communications part," he said. "I take the test again in 2 and 1/2 weeks."

A 694 on the HSCT is about as close as you can get. Ward then talked about what happens if we passes the test in mid July.

"If I pass it, I have met all the requirements and will graduate. Then I will start at Miami in August just like everyone else."

A kid that close and studying for it every day has a very strong possibility of passing it. Personally, I think Jovonny will be here in August. This is awesome news, because Ward has big time ability at the safety position.

In the meantime, he's been busy working out the physical aspect of things.

"I've been running on the beach five times a week," he said. "I'm trying to stay in the best shape I can."

That's for sure. Currently, Ward is 6-foot-1 and weighs 214 pounds and has been getting timed at 4.42 over 40 yards.

The next thing we know on Ward will most likely be the start of two a days or just a few days before then, because it'll take a few weeks for his test scores to go through. If he passes the communications part, he'll start two a days in early August. If not, Ward will likely take the test again in the fall, then report to UM in December.

"I appreciate you calling and your interest in me. Tell them (Canes fans) that I'll be ready in August."
