Oklahoma DL Listing Miami

Jenks High in Oklahoma is one school that the University of Miami has actively recruited for years ever since Butch Davis became head coach in 1995. Starting with running back Bennie Butler, the Canes have actively recruited a half dozen kids from Jenks over the last seven years. This year, there are two UM prospects - defensive back Jason Carter and defensive end Bryan Pickryl, who is today's topic.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Pickryl is his size/speed combination. He's a legit 6-foot-5 and says he's right around 230 right now, give or take a couple pounds. He and his coach says he's a 4.55 forty kid, and on film, he looks like a legit 4.7 kid, which would make him one of the fastest defensive line prospects UM is recruiting. Either way, he has exceptional speed and quickness for a kid his size.

With the frame to add 25-30 pounds over the next two years, he's a kid that could be 6-5 and 255 with 4.7 speed by the time he's ready to make an impact on the defensive line a couple years down the road.

He bench presses 280 pounds and is very active on the football field. He had 77 tackles and 16 sacks as a junior last season before being named first team all-state.

Describe your playing style: I am relentless, and I go 100 percent every play. My motor never stops.

Who called in May: Basically everyone who has offered me a scholarship.

Which schools have offered a scholarship: UCLA, Notre Dame, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, SMU, Texas, LSU, Miami, Arizona State, Tennessee, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Colorado, and some other ones.

Who is your favorite right now and why: I really dont have one favorite. UCLA and Texas are probably my top two. My father played at UCLA and I am strongly considering them. I also like Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Michigan, Miami, and a few others. I'm still wide open and want to take my visits. I'm pretty sure I will visit Texas and UCLA for sure, but I dont know about the other three yet.

Pickryl is a big time prospect. He's one of the top three defensive prospects in the entire country that UM is currently recruiting.

A couple interesting notes that will be important in his recruitment. First, he said he and teammate Jason Carter are strongly considering going to the same school. Generally, those types of ideas fade off during the season, but it's something to consider especially since Carter is very high on Miami. The other factor is the fact that Pickryl says he will graduate in December and enroll into school beginning in January, which makes him an even better prospect since he'll be in school for spring football next year. That also means he'll be taking his visits during the season and will have a decision made in December, which is when he told me a decision will be made.

I think it'll be very important for Miami to get a mid-season visit from Pickryl since he will have already been on the campuses of his other favorites either at camps or unofficial visits this summer. If we get him in for a visit while he's still wide open, our chances increase tremendously. Stay tuned, as I will have a complete interview/story on his teammate, Carter, very soon.
