UM Recruiting Scoop: 8/22

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* Brad Kaaya told Scout that he took in a practice at USC this past weekend. There doesn't appear to be reason for UM fans to worry, however. The QB commit from California said he gave a friend a ride to their practice and even though he spent some time talking to the USC coaches, the Trojans aren't actively recruiting him. He remains solidly committed to the Canes, and has been mentioned by a few other players that he's been recruiting for the Hurricanes lately. He seems rock solid with his commitment.

* A new name to the offensive line board to keep an eye on is 4-star Damian Prince. At 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, he's one of the premier prospects in the state of Maryland. He has offers from everyone, including Miami. He's mentioned Florida State and Florida in the past and is now considering the Hurricanes. He's putting recruiting on the back burner for now, but the Canes are definitely in the mix and he's someone that seems to have a lot of interest in coming to Florida to attend college.

* Jamil Kamara is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the state of Virginia. He landed an offer from the Canes back in the spring and considered it for awhile but cut his list down to five schools earlier this month. Miami didn't make the cut. He told Scout this week, however, that he will not visit one of his final five (Old Dominion) since he's been there a few times already. He plans to use that visit to see Miami instead, which would indicate the Canes are still in the mix. In such a strong year for receivers in Florida, it's tough to get excited about the chances of Kamara being part of this class but it's something to keep an eye on.

* Another new name to the recruiting board is Juco DT Michael Wyche. At 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, Wyche played HS football in Virginia but didn't qualify. He has been at East LA JC since then and is now being recruited nationally. He committed to USC back in the spring but is now getting more offers, including one from Miami, which is making him keep an open mind heading into the season. Miami's a lot closer to his home in Virginia than USC so it could be something to watch. The offer indicates the Canes are still seeking another Juco DT prospect for its 2014 class, in addition to Dalvon Stuckey (who committed here back in the spring).
