Carter no longer a Hurricane

Less than a week before the season opener against FAU, the school confirmed that redshirt freshman Jontavious Carter is no longer on the team.

Jontavious Carter said he was going to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing for the Miami Hurricanes when he committed here during the spring of his junior year in high school.

As of this morning, Carter is no longer a member of the team.

Carter, 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, played his high school football at Crisp County High in Georgia. Despite having a 6-4 frame, Carter wasn't offered a scholarship by any other BCS program. His only visit was to Miami.

After a redshirt year in 2012, Carter was expected to compete for playing time this fall. Especially with the recent addition of Stacy Coley, playing time never came easy for Carter. He was buried on the depth chart heading into his second year.

The Hurricanes signed 33 players in the Class of 2012. With Carter's departure, only 23 of those players remain on the team.
