UM Football Scoop: 8/27

Read on for all the latest news and analysis surrounding the University of Miami football team heading into Friday's season opener.

* The Hurricanes are a very healthy football team. Going into today's practice, only offensive linemen Danny Isidora (out 6-8 weeks) and Hunter Knighton (out for the season) are on the injured list.

* There is still no further update on Junior College defensive tackle transfer Julio Derosier. He was expected to enroll earlier this month but it's starting to seem unlikely that he will be on the team this fall.

* Quarterback Preston Dewey is still not with the team, but is expected back very soon. "He will be joining the team shortly and we'll move forward from there," said Al Golden.

* The Hurricanes released the latest depth chart heading into the final few practices before the FAU game. Lets take a closer look.

RB: The competition between Dallas Crawford and Eduardo Clements for the backup spot to Duke Johnson seems very even right now. They've gone back and forth all fall camp, and it's likely that the team will simply go with the hot hand each week.

WR: Freshman Stacy Coley has overtaken Rashawn Scott and Malcolm Lewis for the team's fourth receiver spot. The three primary starters remain the same -- Allen Hurns, Phillip Dorsett, and Herb Waters. Look for Coley to play a big role this fall.

OL: The Hurricanes enter the season with six starter-caliber players here and two or three backups. Ereck Flowers (LT), Shane McDermott (C), and Brandon Linder (RG) seem to have locked up starting spots. Malcolm Bunche (LG) and Jonathan Feliciano (RT) seem to have the edge on Seantrel Henderson (RT) for those fourth and fifth spots. Jared Wheeler (C or G) is the seventh man, while "Taylor Gadbois is right on the cusp" of being in the rotation. Sunny Odogwu (T), Alex Gall (G), and Hunter Wells (G or T) don't appear to be ready yet and likely won't see meaningful minutes until they are.

LB: The competition for the third starting linebacker spot remains open. It's a battle between junior Thurston Armbrister and freshman Alex Figueroa. Both will likely play a lot of minutes Friday night.

DB: Deon Bush is listed on the third team but that's likely because he spent the first few weeks of fall camp on the injured list. Rayshawn Jenkins has won one safety job, and Bush will likely win the other one very soon. Ladarius Gunter and Tracy Howard emerged as the top two cornerbacks.
