Golden updates several players

Read on to see what head coach Al Golden is saying about several players a few days before the team's season opener.

On if the depth chart is set:
I don't think so. We will work through that. A lot of those will come down to special teams. All of our starters have a role on special teams. We will continue to evaluate and communicate, but we will play a lot of guys on both sides.

On players knowing their roles:
They know where they're at. We're communicating with them. We have a no excuse policy. I don't want any surprises. I think it speaks for every coach in America. Guys who are locked in and doing the right things, then guys who are late to meetings and that leads to depth chart changes.

On the O-Line rotation:
We're between seven and eight. Taylor Gadbois is right on the cusp, as he's has made a lot of improvement. Seven is going in. We'll see how he looks at his final practice tomorrow.

On the freshman offensive linemen:
Sunny is doing good. Alex Gall is doing good. They're not in the rotation right now. Danny was. He will be back sooner than we thought. As I told Sunny, Alex, and Hunter Wells after practice today, they have to keep working and keep developing. I would like to see the rotation expand.

On Denzel Perryman:
He's responded. The last five or six practices were as good as any he's ever had here. I don't wanna say it was a lull because that takes away from Tyrone but at one point he got even. Denzel has the ability to take it to another level. He knows that.

On Justin Renfrow:
He's doing great. He has his weight down, is in good condition. He's smart.

On Gus Edwards:
Gus is doing well. We like Gus. It's easy to classify him as a big back but he has a lot of lateral quickness and acceleration. OT and Dallas have had good camps and they've separated from him but now that he's back into it he'll have something to say about it.

On players still waiting to get in, such as Julio Derosier:
Anything from the clearinghouse or compliance, if they're not cleared, we shut them down and don't mess with it. If they're good, we'll get them out there.

On Walter Tucker:
Walter has done a great job. He's not in the rotation right now. If something were to happen with a running back, he could get into the rotation. He's on special teams. At 225 pounds, he can run. It's a long season. Everything changes between now and October. We are preparing him for a role.

On Curtis Porter:
Curtis looked OK after two days off (with a sore back). That helped him. He looked a lot better today. I don't expect an issue come Friday. Three days is a lot of time.

On the second safety spot:
It's gonna be close. Deon is further behind than some guys but it'll be close. We are preparing for him to play. He's cleared medically. We have double and triple checked. We feel good, and now it's a question of him playing fast.

On playing a lot of guys Friday night:
We are a team that wants to play a lot of guys anyway. I'm always talking about playing a lot of guys, no matter if it's FAU or whomever.
