Canes 34, FAU 6

The Hurricanes defeated FAU tonight in their season opener by the score of 34-6.

The Hurricanes got off to a fast start tonight. They forced a three-and-out on defense, which nearly ended in a Denzel Perryman interception return for a touchdown.

The offense sputtered for most of the first half, but sophomore Duke Johnson made a few big plays. His 53-yard run in the second quarter was the first touchdown of the season. He finished the game with 224 yards of offense and that one touchdown. It was a huge performance for the Hurricanes, which ended up with over 500 yards of total offense.

Stephen Morris threw his first touchdown pass of the season to Clive Walford, who hung on after getting hit pretty hard by an FAU defender. Morris finished the game with 160 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He had two well-thrown balls dropped by freshman Stacy Coley -- both of which would have gone for touchdowns.

The defense provided a pass rush for most of the night, finishing the game with six sacks and a caused fumble. They held FAU's offense under 250 yards of total offense on the night.

Matt Goudis added field goals of 45 and 35 yards, and Herb Waters provided the biggest play of the night when he took a reverse 63 yards for a touchdown.

The big win was expected for the Hurricanes, who will now begin preparation for their showdown against Florida next Saturday.
