Canes ranked 24th

For the first time since November 14, 2010, the Hurricanes are ranked in the Coaches Poll, which was released today.

The Hurricanes finished last season with a 7-5 record, and they returned 20 starters from that team. Expectations were high, and they went out and defeated FAU by four touchdowns in the season opener last Friday.

All of those things were likely factors in the Hurricanes appearing in the national rankings this week.

The Hurricanes, who fell just eight points shy of being ranked in the AP poll, will play host to 9th-ranked Florida this coming Saturday.

A win Saturday would likely put the Canes in the Top 20 heading into the third week of the season.

Alabama, two-time defending champions, remain No. 1. Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, and Clemson round out the top five. Florida and Florida State (10th) are the only two opponents on Miami's 2013 schedule currently ranked in the Top 25.
