Monday Q&A: Mark D'Onofrio

Read on to see what defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio is saying a few days after the team's loss to Virginia Tech.

On tackling issues:
I've been talking about it for weeks. We've worked on it as hard we possibly could. If you tackle in full pads every single day in practice you wouldn't have a team but we're doing it as much as we can. That training should be second nature to them. We have good leadership. We have to get better and execute.

On being on the field too much:
Each game is different. We're responsible to get off the field. We want to give the offense extra possessions off turnovers.

On improving tackling:
You see evidence of guys doing it the right way. It's just a matter of continuing to show up and show consistency. You have to reinforce. I thought we had our best week of practice leading up to it. The tackling was disappointment.

On coverage breakdowns:
A few times we didn't cover it well. We practiced well, and it didn't happen. We have to get our guys to execute better, being more comfortable when those situations arise in the game.
