Duke -- A Closer Look

The Hurricanes travel to take on Duke this Saturday. Read on for a closer look at the Blue Devil team this season.

They've played 3 games against decent opponents this season. Their starting QB was out for the first two.

vs GT: lost 38-14
vs Pitt: lost 58-55
@ VT: won 13-10

QB: Anthony Boone was their starter going into the season but he suffered a collarbone injury and missed some time. They've used two QBs lately (the other is Brandon Connette). Between the two, they're around 62% and a 17/15 ratio so QB play hasn't been stellar. They can both run well, and get very dangerous down inside the redzone. They've combined for over 500 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground alone.

RB: They use a bunch of guys here but no one really jumps out.

WR/TE: Jamison Crowder is, by far, their best offensive weapon. He has 67 catches (27 is the next closest) for 903 yards and 3 scores. He tore UM up last season, going for over 200 yards and two scores (and he's the one who scored the 99-yarder).

OL: It's a good unit. They don't run a whole bunch but this unit has helped an average group of running backs average 5.3 per carry on the season. They've thrown it over 300 times and have given up just 12 sacks on the season.

DL: Kenny Anunike (#84) is their best guy here. He's their top pass rusher (4 sacks) and is projected to be drafted late next spring.

LB: Kelby Brown (#59) is their most active. He's 3rd in tackles but makes a lot of plays behind the LOS.

DB: Jeremy Cash (#16) leads the secondary. He is all over the field. He's 2nd in tackles, 2nd in TFLs, and first in picks (4). He's also caused two fumbles. He's from Plantation High and was actually recruited by Shannon's regime. He signed with Ohio State but transferred and is now Duke's top defender.

ST: This is as good a special teams unit that UM will play this season. Crowder is one of the top punt return specialists in all of college football. He has two scores on returns. Devon Edwards is their top kick return guy, and is also very dangerous. Punter Will Monday averages over 43 per try. Ross Martin is 7-of-9 on field goals with a long of 53.
