UM Recruiting Scoop: 12/5

Read on for all the latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

* RB Dalvin Cook signed Financial Aid papers with UM on Wednesday, but that's not the same as a Letter of Intent. It's something new with NCAA recruiting rules this year. Players can sign them with multiple schools (Cook also signed papers with FSU). What it does, however, is lift the restrictions that all other coaches have (only one in-home visit per week, limited number of phone calls, etc). Cook plans to visit here this weekend. It's down to FSU, Miami, and Florida. It's also worth noting that Miami Central teammates Joseph Yearby and Trevor Darling also signed F-A papers with UM Wednesday.

* Johnnie Dixon is expected to announce his final decision this coming Sunday. The time has not yet determined but it'll be right after he returns from an official visit to Miami. That will start Saturday, a day later than usual because his high school team plays Friday night. Dixon has already taken official visits to NC State, Arkansas, Ohio State, and Alabama. NC State and Arkansas were dropped a couple weeks ago. My Alabama sources say the Tide coaches have stopped recruiting him since they believe he's headed elsewhere. It appears to be a two team race between the Canes and Buckeyes. I've heard that both coaching staffs feel good about their chances. Even if he's favoring the Buckeyes, the Canes will get one last chance to change his mind this weekend.

* Ryheem Lockley signed with Miami back in February but wasn't able to qualify in time for the fall semester. He enrolled at Fork Union Academy instead but says he's on track to finish up his necessary classes in the next few days. If that happens Lockley will likely enroll at Miami next month for the spring semester. He hasn't taken any other recruiting visits, plans on being here this weekend, and is totally committed to becoming a Miami Hurricane. After playing numerous positions in high school, Lockley projects as a pass-catching tight end/H-Back in Miami's offense.

* Ermon Lane is a 5-star WR prospect from Homestead High. He committed to the Gators back in the spring, and never changed his mind after that. He's been to Miami since his original commitment and my sources are saying the Canes are back in the race for the talented receiver. It's tough to get too excited about Miami's chances until he actually takes an official visit here but he's another elite level prospect who could be seriously considering the Canes down the stretch.
