Local DL explains commitment status

Demetrius Jackson helped lead Booker T. Washington High to a state title this past weekend. Now he talks about the latest with recruiting.

Demetrius Jackson doesn't have an extensive football background. He just started playing football in the spring, and that's when he caught Miami's attention.

At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Jackson had an impressive spring and then earned a scholarship offer from the Canes following a strong summer camp performance. He committed soon after being offered.

Now that his senior season is finished, his focus is on recruiting.

"I had a great football season and now I can focus on school more and recruiting," Jackson said.

The standout defensive end prospect is starting to land some other major offers, and those schools have caught his attention.

"Arkansas, UM, Louisville, and West Virginia are my top four," he said.

There was some buzz going around Monday that Jackson was no longer committed to the Canes. He said Monday night that is not the case.

"There have been blogs, articles, and whispers that I de-committed from UM. Those rumors are false. I am committed to the University of Miami. I'm excited to join the family."

The standout defensive end prospect is expected to visit all four schools mentioned above.
