Louisville Post-Game: Al Golden

Read on to see what head coach Al Golden was saying following his team's loss to Louisville Saturday night.

On the game:
We're obviously disappointed. We got beat in all three phases. There are no excuses. Louisville played really well. It's my responsibility. As I just share with the team, despite that, I'm really proud of the seniors and what they've been through. We're going to miss them greatly.

On being overmatched:
It's hard to answer that without discrediting the guys in that locker room. Everyone recognizes that we're not where we want to be yet. We're scratching and fighting to get where we want to be. We have to get better. We will play these guys again in the future and we have to be better.

On the defense:
We didn't give the defense a Chance Early in this game. They did a great job against the run early on. We were 0-for-7 on third downs on offense in the first half. We have to do a better job coaching, building our program, and moving forward. The defense held us in there in the first half but they were in there too many plays.

On the bowl experience:
It's our first go around with the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The seniors provided good leadership for us. You have to go through it. There will be a lot of things from this, how to handle it, that we haven't had the opportunity to do.

On the seniors:
They could have run. They saved us, kept us afloat. That's about as hard as it gets for what they had to go through. The way we played wasn't to our standard but I won't let that eclipse what those young men did for our program. I'm proud of them.

On what's next:
I will evaluate the whole program like I do every year. It stings right now and we will continue moving forward. At the end of the day, we'll keep recruiting and developing them. I want to keep growing, and moving forward. I think, overall, it's important that every coach and every player is evaluated.

On Teddy Bridgewater:
Number one, he made a lot of plays where he made some excellent individual plays. There were times it looked like we had him for a sack. He's an excellent quarterback, threw the ball well. He played well and executed well. There are no excuses.

On recruiting:
We need help. The size of this incoming class says how much help we have coming in. We're not in a situation right now where we want to be. Those kids want to help us get there. This won't change anything. We just have to continue moving forward.
