UM Recruiting Scoop: 1/30

Read on for all the absolute latest recruiting news and information surrounding the University of Miami, with complete analysis from CanesTime's Mike Bakas.

Six days remain.

* The Hurricanes have 26 commitments right now. Six players are officially on the roster as spring entries. Three others (Darrion Owens, Ryan Mayes, and Calvin Heurtelou) say they're in but have not yet been added to the official roster. Of the remaining 17 commitments, only two are still taking other visits and considering other schools -- DE Demetrius Jackson (Arkansas last weekend and Texas this weekend) and DE Chad Thomas (Florida State last weekend and Alabama this weekend).

Here is what else is left:

QB -- The Canes have two solid commitments right now but they're trying to add Booker T Washington's Treon Harris. At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, Harris was originally offered as an athlete by Miami. However after an outstanding senior season that ended in a state title, Harris landed an offer from Miami as a QB. An FSU commit, he's taken visits to Florida and Auburn and plans to see Miami this weekend. It won't be easy to flip him but they'll have their chance.

RB -- Bo Scarbrough surprised a lot of people by taking an unofficial visit to Miami this past weekend. The 5-star Alabama commitment, who lives in Alabama but played this past season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, plans to visit UM officially this weekend. It's between the Tide and Canes, and this weekend will go a long way in determining Miami's chances of flipping him at the last minute.

WR -- David Njoku is the main remaining target here. At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Njoku is a 3-star from NJ who visited here last month. He's also taken visits to Alabama, UConn, and Temple. The Tide are no longer actively recruiting him. Ohio State canceled his visit there, which was scheduled for this weekend. It appears it's a three-team race between the Canes, UConn, and Temple. Miami seems to be in good shape.

TE -- done

OL -- done

DE -- Lorenzo Featherston is a new name in the mix. At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, he was an Under Armour All-American from North Carolina. Miami offered him back in the spring but he made an early commitment to FSU. He's also visited Clemson and Florida. If he visits here this weekend, which is very possible, there's a good chance he'll end up in this class.

DT -- The two main options here are Travonte Valentine and Lamont Gaillard. A local 4-star, Valentine is debating whether to take an official visit here this weekend. He's already made commitments to three separate schools and will likely make it four next week by choosing LSU. Gaillard is a 4-star from NC who is currently committed to Georgia. Miami tried getting him on campus last weekend but he canceled. They're trying again, although it's unlikely that he visits and especially unlikely that he flips.

LB -- The Canes appear to be interested in adding one more and the new name to the board is Dillard's Randy Ramsey. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, he's an Arkansas commit right now. Miami just started recruiting him but he is expected not to visit and remain with his commitment to Arkansas.

DB -- Three targets remain. The most likely is 4-star CB J.C. Jackson. At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, the Immokalee standout is committed to Florida but has been to UM several times. UM is set to visit him at home on Saturday. He is expected to choose UM over Florida next week. Tavon Ross is a DB prospect from Georgia who visited here last weekend. He's committed to Missouri right now but UGA is trying to flip him late. He's likely going to choose between those two. 4-star Arrion Springs is committed to Oregon but visited here a couple weeks ago. He's expected to remain with his pledge to the Ducks, however.
