Hoops: Canes win in overtime

After opening the season with a loss in overtime, Miami needed overtime to get on the winning side of things Monday.

The Hurricanes have now gone into overtime in each of their first two games of the season. This time, it pulled out a close victory over Georgia Southern by the score of 81-80.

The Canes jumped out to a three-point halftime lead before GSU took the game into overtime. Miami outscored its opponent 14-13 in the extra session to pull off the victory.

Donnavan Kirk finished the game with his second straight double-double, as he scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He was, again, Miami's top performer. Rion Brown added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Jelani Hewitt led GSU with 27 points, but his strong effort wasn't quite enough.

Brown, Kirk, Manu Lacomte, Garrius Adams, and Davon Reed were the five starters for the Hurricanes in this game.

Miami (1-1) will play host to Texas Southern this Thursday.
