Hoops: Canes drop ACC opener

The Hurricanes opened their ACC schedule on Sunday against Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, Miami was unable to pull it out.

Despite jumping out to an eight-point lead at halftime, the Hurricanes were unable to close out the Hokies in the second half. Virginia Tech won the game in the final seconds by the score of 61-60.

James Kelly scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Hurricanes. Garrius Adams scored 14 points, while Davon Reed pitched in 10 points and grabbed five boards.

The Hokies, who were paced by Jarell Eddie, were just too hot from beyond three-point range. They connected on 12-of-34 from behind the arc and were able to finish off the comeback late against the Canes.

Kelly, Adams, Reed, Donnavan Kirk, and Rion Brown were the five starters for the Hurricanes in this game.

Miami (5-5/0-1) will travel to Savannah State this coming Thursday as they try getting back on the winning side of things.
