Williams suffers ACL injury

Ryan Williams, Miami's starting quarterback this spring, suffered an ACL injury Friday.

The Hurricanes have stayed relatively healthy throughout the spring. That changed in a big way during Friday night's scrimmage.

Starting quarterback Ryan Williams suffered a non-contact injury to his ACL and will undergo surgery this coming week.

"A timetable for his return is not available at this time," the school said in a statement late Saturday night.

Williams, who led Miramar High to a state championship his senior year there, signed with Memphis and started a few games his freshman season with the Tigers.

Soon after Al Golden got the job here at Miami, Williams transferred. After sitting out his first year due to NCAA transfer rules in 2011, Williams served as Stephen Morris' backup the last two seasons.

Now a senior, Williams was having a solid spring and was holding off strong competition from redshirt freshman Kevin Olsen.
